LG Optimus G Pro launched in India, priced at Rs 42,500

LG has finally launched the Optimus G Pro in India. But it comes at a time when its competition, the year-old Samsung Galaxy Note II, is about to get a new version.

LG must be hoping that the high-end specs and design will be able to woo a lot of large-screen
lovers to its new phablet.

LG India MD Soon Kwon explained that the smartphone market in India is growing rapidly and there is a huge demand for big screen size mobile phones.

"The market size for five-inch and above screens is expected to be 1.5 million units by the end of 2013. With this launch we are gearing towards our aim of capturing 10 per cent market share in the smartphone category by the end of 2014," he said.

The Optimus G Pro has a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display with 400 pixels per inch. It is powered by a 1.7 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB RAM. There is a 13 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front camera.

Running on Android Jelly Bean, the device packs in a 3140 mAh battery and has got 32GB onboard storage along with an expandable memory card slot.

LG has also loaded some additional features such as dual camera recording mode, multi-view window multitasking mode (as found on Samsung) and a Qtranslate app.

However, the price tag of Rs 42,500 could be a put off for many buyers, especially since the Samsung Galaxy Note II is selling for Rs 27,500 with the buyback offer.

The next version of the Galaxy Note is likely to be launched in August.
